2005 baby grow charity ball
On the 7th of November 2007, after a year of planning, we held our second recent biennial fundraising ball at the Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane.

With over 400 guests including two tables of Winnicott baby Unit staff donated by a parent, the evening started with a champagne reception followed by a dinner dance along with appeal video, floor auction and music by The Feeling and, later on, The Fabulous Feedback Band. The proceedings were hosted by the energetically charismatic Al Murray who kept the mood ebullient whilst, at the same time, encouraging guests to dig deep for the Foundation. Al Murray even showcased his musical talents when he sang alongside The Feeling and drummed with The Fabulous Feedback Band.

In addition to the entertainment, we also held a silent auction and floor auction with a dazzling array of items to win including a helicopter ride to play golf at the renowned Goodwood course, a private suite to watch the Spice Girls reunion show in London and a week on a private island paradise in the Caribbean! The silent auction featured an equally impressive list featuring items such as Kylie Minogue’s shoes & accessories worn at her H&M shoot, a champagne 5-day break at a luxury hotel and a private use of a screen at the BFI Southbank.

All in all it was a truly spectacular and memorable night with a wonderful atmosphere. The ball raised in excess of £250,000 which will help us go towards our major new programme of staff training and developing a specialised training suite. The funds raised will also help us continue our work of promoting developmental care, breast feeding and supporting babies and their families on the Winnicott Baby Unit.

This event would not have been possible without the dedication of our ball committee who helped make this event such a success through their hard work, planning and sourcing, the helpers on the night who kept things running smoothly behind the scenes and the individuals and organisations who kindly donated such wonderful items as auction lots and raffle prizes.

We will be holding our next ball at the Dorchester in November 2009, if you want to purchase tickets or get involved please contact us at info@winnicott.org.uk
